I have been chasing this title for a long time and now it has finally arrived, and I can say that I am the reigning Italian champion.
My journey begins exactly in 2015 when I first experimented with this fishing technique in the creek.
I was already participating in crawling competitions in the pond and that year at the same time in addition to spinning fishing I had also started with touch fishing. I achieved outstanding results in all three areas, and the following year the qualifications for the Italian championship would await me.
At the touch I had given up because, that date coincided with an important competition for me and I was left with the spinning one (by winning the provincial championship I was entitled to it), which I overcame in the best way by winning my section.
That was how I got to contest my first Italian championship, which, saw me winning my two sectors for both trials, but with fewer fish than the other two people with two first place finishes.
I manage to get the bronze medal and with it also the qualification of the blue club.
A whole new experience for me, considering that before that moment I didn't even know there was a world championship in this specialty.
And that was how I became part of the top 18 Italian agonists playing for the national jersey in six competitions.
The first two years for me were the most difficult--I was just starting out and didn't have the mastery of all the lures or the experience to be able to win. It took two years before I won the blue club and became part of the national team, and since then I continue to be a part of it, having also won 2 silver and one gold team medals and an individual bronze not to mention 2 wooden medals(4th place).
During these years I manage to hit the podium again 2 more times in the Italian individual championship, getting a silver and another bronze.
I was always there, ready to win it but, every time I missed something, it may have been luck or I wasn't prepared enough, who knows?
A month earlier I was together with the Italian team on the banks of the Biferno River competing in the world championship that saw us wear the team gold medal.
I also came close to the individual by getting two sector firsts both days but, having accumulated more penalties than my teammates I end up in third place.
I was happy with that result but, believe me winning both trials and not getting the gold medal a little bit demoralized me. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to prepare more or try the race course and every choice I made was instinctive with even the guidance of the people who were following me but, I will tell you that story later as well.
After the world championship I had decided to take a break and leave 'trout fishing alone for a while but, just a short time later the Italian championship had already arrived which definitely caught me unprepared.
My good fortune had been to have all the materials ready that, I had prepared for the world championship, and the night before I left, I loaded my suitcase with everything I had lying around and set out for my destination.
I ended up with all the anchors and hooks devoid of barbs but by now, I was there.
I had no choice but to make do with what I had.... When I think of all the other Italian championships I've played, now I almost laugh about it...I always had what I needed ready and yet despite wanting it so badly it didn't come....
Now it occurs to me, that the more you try and focus on one thing, the harder it is to get....
Don't misunderstand me, you have to give everything you have by trying and training, but only when you have a clear head and don't put winning first does it seem that you get what you want.
For me it went like this...those two days of competition were incredible, whatever choices I had made were the right ones, breaking line and unhooking fish was the order of the day but, I was so much in the fishery that, little did it matter.
It seemed that on the other side of the wire I had a magnet attached and wherever I threw it I attached something.
I've been fishing for a long time is to find a situation like this-it's science fiction-it's never happened to me.
The strange thing was that the others weren't catching and I everywhere I passed was attacking fish, what can I say...it had to be this way and when I least expected it it came !
